My goal as a photographer
is to capture the mood of a scene as well as the essence of a thing. In my images I enjoy bringing out the personality and uniqueness of what I see. When shooting outdoors I’m attracted by the calmness of scenes and I try to capture and convey that. The driving force
behind making pictures is my interest in anything naturally beautiful, recording moments and documenting the complex simplicity of our surrounding.
I started getting serious about taking photos
in 1999 when I was given a film SLR camera as a present by a very good friend of mine, who knew how much I loved taking pictures and how limited I was with my point-and-shoot camera to capture what I saw.The next step was to buy books on how to take photographs.
I discovered several of
John Hedgecoe's
well written instructional guides.A well known great photographer, his books were educational and inspirational. Perhaps his take on a subject shaped me my style a bit too. And I thank him forever for the guidance on my first steps into becoming a photographer.
Apart from going through a
steep learning curve
on how to operate a camera properly, my style, subject and processing has changed over the years. Currently I primarily produce black & white photographs. And as I love being outdoors travelling and hiking, my main subjects are nature, landscapes and street scenes.I am born in 1973 and grew up in Lauter, a small town in the
Ore Mountains
, Saxony, Germany. After living in Switzerland and Norway for a few years, I came to England in 2001; just to see what it’s like living there. I have been living in Bournemouth, Dorset since then.At the moment I use a
Canon EOS 50D
with a Canon EF-S 17-85mm lens. Though some older images where taken with a Fujifilm S7000 or a Canon EOS IX7 (film). I take my photos in RAW format and develop them in Adobe Camera RAW. Most of my black and white images have been taken in colour and later converted in Photoshop. In March 2008 I joined the
ART for Cancer Group
and helped Cid Palacio, the founder with growing the group and spreading the word. The ART for Cancer group is a group of artists from around the world, representing over 30 countries, who have united to help in the fight against cancer. We have each committed to donate a portion of our art sales to various cancer charities. Some beautiful slideshows featuring artwork of the group members are published on YouTube.
I donate 50% of net profit from my Art for Cancer Print Collection to Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
